Autumn News from Devon 2026
sue side
Dear All
I remember saying how hot summer 2025 was. Well, I take my hat off to 2026! It was sooo hot. A summer of hiding in dark, cool spaces and trying to keep the garden from total decimation. Our poor fruit trees struggled, with fruit cooking on the tree or dropping early. We created a little watering hole over the dry summer where our hedgehogs, badgers and foxes congregated overnight. It was a wonder to watch (via a trail camera)
Now nature seems to be in full recovery and after a most beautiful September and October, the garden is as colourful as ever, with roses still flowering. Along with local cats, of course.
We’ve continued to explore the joy that is Devon, have had some very lovely visitors and the beach remains a firm ‘go to’ on a sunny day.
Art life
It was great to be part of a fabulous exhibition of work by SGFA members at the ACE Gallery in Somerton then September brought another Devon Open Studios exhibition. This year I shared space with Nick Withers, photographer and Sarah Holder, ceramicist. Thank you to everyone who came. We loved meeting you and sharing our work with you. On the back of that was the Chulmleigh Makers and Creators trail – a joyful event in wonderful late summer sun. I’m currently exhibiting with the South West Academy in Sidmouth, I feel very proud to have been selected once again. I am also in a show at The Burton Gallery in Bideford and have work in The Dolphin Gallery, Wantage this winter.
After quite a while of people asking me to, I’ve started to hold bespoke workshops. Details are HERE.
All you need to do is get in touch and we can organise something at a time which suits you.
Commissioned work
My commission calendar for 2027 has already started to fill up, so do get in touch if you are interested. I won’t be taking too many as I have a lot of printing plans!
